Lsd Questions

You will only notice a difference in moving off on a slippery surface and accelerating hard out of a corner.
It will not be of real benefit at motorway speeds on light throttle openings, only when accerating and when the back wheels lose traction due to surface conditions etc.

lsd's give better dry traction at lower (than motorway) speeds, when powering out of or around a corner. this is because the plates in the diff limit the wheelspin of the inner tyre, and the power goes to the outer tyre which has more grip (due to the weight transfer). with a lsd in the wet, excess power can cause both wheels to slip, with hairy oversteer consequences! so to answer your q's,
does a limited slip diff give better road holding/traction because it is less likely to spin the rear wheels ? Yes. Is it likely to help with traction at motorway speeds in the rain. No. What are the other benefits if any. Better dry traction from standing starts or when powering around a corner. hope this helps a bit, R
Thanks fellas
That explains it to me in terms even I can understand. Cheers Paul
Plus big thanks to Jon, Russ, Harry and especially Dave Gamble for his huge bbq – great 02 hospitality.
Jaymic should push all and anything on this forum – it’s all good IMHO
Came across a rotten Targa in Devon – it’ll probably be sold for peanuts if anyone fancies a brave resto. Contact me off line for pics/details.
Apologies for thread combining!
Nick
