H7 conversion takes a little bit of modification but is possible. The H4 conversion is straight forward as the later 02 models have the h4 headlight units.

Divyesh Divyesh Jansari 12 September 2007 11:34

Hi Richard, Thanks for the advice, I read the AutoExpress report too.

Divyesh Divyesh Jansari 09 September 2007 16:58

Who knows their headlights?? Will later H4 reflectors from an all black grill fit the earlier chrome grill buckets?

kev brown 10 July 2009 06:11

hey guys, any of you want a twin headlight conversion before i chuck it on fleabay?

Russell Crawford 06 April 2009 10:10

Hi, I've just read in the lastest BMW Car Club Mag Sept 07 issue pg14 about the above kit.

Divyesh Divyesh Jansari 06 September 2007 12:18

Hi All, I installed an H4-3 HID kit in my Chysler Sebring. H4-3 is a single HID bulb that slides in and out for dip/main beam. Normally refered to as Bi-xenon.

Doug Lewis 12 September 2007 08:33

I put standard brand new complete post 74 H4 units on my 2000 touring a few years ago and don't find them to bad at all. I've just driven back from Gatwick to Suffolk last night at 2 in the morning.

paul hill 22 September 2008 10:16

I would also like to upgrade the lights. how can you upgrade to h7 bulbs? My headlight bowls wont even accept the new type h4 bulb?

James Child 12 September 2007 11:21

No I haven't yet James, I thought I might go for H4 or H7 upgrade on the h/lights as I'm using a Bosch 14v 90amph alternator on the Evo sport engine.

Divyesh Divyesh Jansari 12 September 2007 11:02

There must be a kit out there that will work because I have seen pic's of a 2002 with hid lights.

James Child 09 September 2007 18:04

I am quite new to this forum so Hi to all! I have a 1973 2002 cabriolet in polaris silver, and whilst transporting it recently lost 1 side of my twin headlamp conversion (drivers side).

harvey anderson 15 April 2009 21:12

My headlights are useless & need replacing (reflectors perished). Has anyone replaced some from a different car with 7" lights, eg. Minis are the same size & can be bought brand new for £40 a pair.

kev brown 21 September 2008 22:27

did you give ca automotive a ring? Regards James

James Child 12 September 2007 10:35

Hi Doug, I did also consider the H4-3 kit as I saw it advertised at Brooklands.

Divyesh Divyesh Jansari 12 September 2007 10:08

HeadlightsHi Kev I replaced the headlights on my '71 (pre – 71) 2002 with American headlight buckets which will take conventional UK light units.

Michael Smailes 22 September 2008 20:15

There has been a lot of discussion on headlights in the past. I don't know how long the threads are kept, but you could try a search on the jiglui site. Cheers, John.

John Hudson 22 September 2008 07:53

HI Divyesh I thought it was too good to be true, I was also thinking of getting it. AutoExpress did a report on all these HID systems & they are technically not Legal as the beam is more scattered.

Richard Stern 07 September 2007 07:19

Running out of money & still needing headlights, I was wondering if there was "another way". If I had a spare set of headlight mounts, cut the glass lens off & re-mounted to the car.

kev brown 15 February 2009 20:52

splashed out on my tii, but not complete lamps. i thought the lenses were quite cheap, mines a '71, and they were about £15 each. they're a bit more for the h4 ones. reflectors were more, about...

Russell Crawford 08 February 2009 23:11

Hi Guys, I also have used the USA buckets too with an early grill and used Australian made Hella units. Only problem is that they sit further back from the grill surround.

John Hudson 23 September 2008 08:59

Hi, You're right, the buckets are the same but the lenses throw a different light pattern on low beam. They don't interchange from side to side, so you need both a left and a right hand unit.

Robert Snow 22 September 2008 21:22

Hi Kev I don't think so, the buckets seem to be universal and I'm fairly certain that its the glass (lens) patern that determines LH or RHD. Regards Mike

Michael Smailes 22 September 2008 20:39

Hi Kev I doubt anything will be a "straight swap", but with a bit of bodging and some initiative you can probably manage something.

Pete Moore 22 September 2008 08:23

I use a PIAA bulbs and have replaced the reflectors. This resolves the problem. You can purchase new reflectors from Jammic

Bradley Prentice 28 August 2008 00:08

hi all does anyone out there have a set of twin headlight grills for a 75 2002? i bought a set of twin headlights inc grills but obviously with my luck the grills dont fit my targa!!

The reflectors inside my headlights have corroded as well, Can you just buy the reflectors or do you need compele new units which i supect will cost a fortune?.

Michael Carpenter 24 September 2009 16:33

Hi Paul, Are your headlights custom design for the 2002 front grill or are they available off the self from Hella? Great car, saw it at Gaydon! Regards Divyesh

I am a new member to the forum; let me tell you a bit about myself. My name is Paul Waite, I’m 30, live in Banbury and I am an Engineer.

Paul Waite 19 September 2009 10:22

Forgot to also ask about headlights & are front brakes Tii ??

kev brown 21 August 2009 18:09

Great show and to finally out some faces to forum names after missing DID. And of course made me lament the fact my car is back off the road.

Robert Lamprell 18 August 2009 14:34

Check the headlight relay.

John Hudson 16 August 2009 21:27

Hi Kev, I could not find the link, but I am sure that the the lens come without the adjusters. Cheers, John.

John Hudson 10 July 2009 18:29

Cheers John, I guess you mean part 4 in the picture but it doesnt appear to have the twp adjuster bolts which are part of the 02 reflector. do you now if they come with these but just not pictured??

kev brown 10 July 2009 17:37

Hi Kev, The reflectors will fit ok. You can do it from the back without removing the glass lens. Did you try the link that I posted a while ago about pattern reflectors from a VW supplier?

John Hudson 10 July 2009 08:53

Morning Kev I’m fairly certain that older headlamps fit the later grille. After I, er, redesigned the front end of my car, it now has a later-style front end (yes, the wrong front end, Robert!)

David Evans 10 July 2009 08:39

I've done exactly that on my tii, kev. The beam pattern is fine. Probably not quite as good as with a h4 glass but not by much. R

Russell Crawford 10 July 2009 08:30

Not an expert on the lenses but I did fit new h4 complete units on my 72. It was a fiddle to do and the chrome grilles had to have a 'spacer' inserted to make fit properly. That doesn't really help.

paul hill 10 July 2009 07:09

David Evans 16 April 2009 10:20

Nope, the twin headlamp option was offered by BMW pretty much all the way through the production cycle, they're designed specifically for the 02 and vary from the early to late models.

Pete Moore 16 April 2009 07:46

Hi Harvey, I assume these would be the same as E21 320/323i & poss MK3 capri. Either way, they should be easier to find than a good standard headlight.
